1. Family and Friends

Dallas Tx for Nonnie's Bday 07-30/08-03-07

Let the family adventure begin. The Geare family headed for Texas thanks to Nonie to celebrate her 75th birthday. Margaret, Julie, Nonie and me were all together on a plane headed for Texas. As we pushed back from the gate the Pilot came on and said DFW airport was just closed due to weather. After a brief wait they said we were clear for take off. They debated on if they had enough fuel but decided it would be ok. Well bad choice as we were caught in a holding pattern so we had to ditch to Austin because we didn't have enough fuel. Toni was on her was from a different area and was also diverted to Oklahoma. After a lengthy wait on the tarmac with 5 other planes we were refueled and back in the air. There was some awesome clouds as we approached DFW.

Ann picked us up and Toni was right behind us. We all loaded up in Ann's van and took off. This was where the fun began. Ann was lost and did a couple of turn around. She was getting frustrated so she decided to call John. As she was on the phone she got off the freeway. She was in the far left lane of the access road and came to a full stop. I thought "this is not good" cars were coming at us at 70+. Margaret yelled at Ann to take off which she did. She punched it and we were headed for 2 huge puddles that covered our lane. I was holding on when we hit the 1st one as we sprayed a wall of water 20' in the air. Whew, we made it, now here comes the 2nd one and there is a line of cars in the lane next to us. I braced myself for the impact but some how she made it again. John gave us some directions and we made it back to their house where we could all use a drink.

We had a very relaxing rest of the evening and a great time Friday around their wonderful pool. They live in a gorgeous subdivision of beautiful brick homes.

On Sunday we went into Dallas to the book depository museum. This is where JF Kennedy was shot and killed. The Museum was a blast. They had excellent photos and video of the day it happened. Lots of excellent history. After the museum we all headed to a restaurant called Bone Daddy's for some great tasting BBQ. I don't think any one went home hungry after our stop at Bone Daddy's. The food was excellent.

Well Monday is here and it is time to start heading home. John, Steve, Joey and me went to watch Nick Practice football with his freshman team. That was fun watching them mix it up. before heading to the airport we decided to go see cousin Elaine in another town before heading to the airport. She and her husband own a Wine store. This is again where the excitement started. In the mini-van was all the women and in the exploder was the Brother-in-Law club headed up by Steve the Brother. We were having a good time giving John a lot of crap because he kept missing his turn offs. I almost got car sick from being flung from one side of the car to the other. It was amazing how many close calls we had in such a short time. It didn't help matters that the women kept calling John and asking him what was going on. I give Ann credit she stayed right on our tail. After 2 stops asking for directions we finally arrives at Elaine's store. We had a good time visiting and shopping at Elaine and now it was time to get to the airport hopefully. The women thought John missed the turn off so they took the lead. He knew where he was going all the time. Yea we made it even thought we were a bit early. Better early than late.

I guess it was good that we were early because our flight was cancelled and we had to go to another terminal. Our flight was delayed for about 2 hours. Bummer. We finally got the word our plane had landed and was on the way to the gate. They said we had to take off by 8:53 or the pilots would not be legal and would have to turn around. I told Nonie as we approached the plane she would have to hot foot it to her seat. She did a great job. Most of the passengers were nonchalant about getting aboard. Once they finally did they pushed us back and the Pilots jetted to the front of the line which was cool and we took off.

In conclusion I believe everyone had an outstanding time. It was very nice of Ann, John, Nick and Joey to take us into their beautiful home and treat us all so good. I want to especially thank Nick and Joey for giving up their rooms for the adults to sleep in. Keep those birthdays coming Nonie!!!!!!
