DT/Raceline Breakfast Moab Rim
Thursday morning the Discount Tire team was up and at em early at the Spanish Trails Arena making breakfast sandwiches for all the participants. With a great attitude they worked together to make 500 sandwiches for anyone that wanted one. It was awesome to see how fast they put everything together. Some friends come over to join in the fun to help out as well. It's always nice to see how infectious it is to give back to the community. I saw some of the people that were at the Discount Tire Ice Cream Social/Raffle come over to get some food. The little girls that kept making runs to the ice cream cooler showed up as well. I made sure to tell their parents there was still some ice cream in the cooler so make sure the girls grabbed one if they wanted one. Why not they are here on vacation.
After everyone had their bellies full it was time for us to go get in line for the our Discount Tire sponsored ride on Moab Rim Trail. This is one of our favorite trails. As we arrived to the starting line up it was packed with some amazing side by sides. Looks like it will be another awesome day in Moab.
The start of Moab Rim trail gets the mood set on high as there is a big rock you have to launch up and over with a 100 foot drop seaming ly right next to you. There is plenty of room but your mind plays tricks with you telling you it is only a couple of feet from certain death. As one after the other make it up and over with excellent help from the trail guides the adrenalin was definitely flowing. Erick’s Milestar Patagonia SXT made the crack look easy. We also had one of our other guys (Adam) on the trail with us in his RZR 4 XP 1000 running BFG T/A KM3 in 32x10R15 with Method 405 15x7 5+2 wheels. With Adams extra ground clearance and solid traction the crack was a mere bump.
The second obstacle is called the z turn because of how you normally have to turn in a z fashion but Adam with his new confidence decided to hit the wall straight on to test the traction of the BFG tires. He launched to the top of the rock face with ease thanks to his traction.
One after the other everyone made it through the tough spots as we kept making our way to the top of the hill although I heard one side by side rolled on one of the ledges but everyone was fine. The group worked together to right the machine and they continued on.
This part of the trail is extremely rocky and Eric and Adam decided they would hang back some so they could punish their tires by driving through the rocks fast to test the toughness of the tires. I have to say I'm glad it was not my machine as we took a few hard hits.
We reached the lookout for lunch which is a gorgeous spot on the side of a cliff overlooking the town of Moab with everyone in great shape. It's always fun to have a few minutes to talk to some of the other riders and share stories of t trail and just enjoy the beauty.
Back on the trail it seamed the group was on a mission as the pace was picked up on the way down. We were making good time on the rocky trail until there was a bottle neck that stopped us. Being at the back of about 20 rigs we couldn't see what was going on but later found out someone else rolled on their side near the first roll. This was some other riders that were coming up. Again everyone helped out he other group and got them back on their wheels and on the way.
We all made it to the bottom without any further incidents. When we arrived back at the condos we inspected both the Milestar Patagonia Milestar and BFG T/A KM 3 tires. There were no chip, slices or any noticeable wear despite the very rugged trail. It is a testament to the rugged built tires.
If you need any tires or wheels please check out the entire lineup from Discount Tire. Any of their trusted experts will be happy to help.
Fridays trail will be more mild natured but it is still a tough rocky trail named Porcupine Rim Trail.
See you on the trail.
