RoyD's excellent Adventure 03/04/2006
Here we go again off on another excellent adventure. This time our fearless leader was RoyD. He had a loop mapped out on his GPS that started out at the airstrip behind Lake Pleasant @ 7:30 AM. The riders were RoyD, Leo, (aka Bone Daddy) Lumpy rides, C4max and me Azquadrider. We headed up Cow Creek Rd towards the back way to Crown King. Roy said there was a road to the right we needed to find. At the first big obstacle RoyD had all 4 wheels of his 400 Bomb Max off the ground and was dragging me through the ditch as I was holding on to his back rack. For some reason he wouldn't go back and do it again so I could get a photo. (Montana rider always does) After a couple of dead ends we found the road but we were stopped by a no trespassing sign and a locked gate. We went the other way on this road and found the Columbia mine. This was an interesting area with lots of mines and it put us back on track. Next we ended up at a place called Packer after lots of miles of fun trails. This area is also part of the Milk Ranch Loop. We did probably a little more than half of Milk Ranch and took a trail to the E. and came upon Black Canyon city. This trail ended up going down beside Boulder Creek and ending up at the NE side of Lake Pleasant. At this point I knew we were not going to make this a loop as the Lake had swallowed up the trail. It was now about 5:00 PM and Roy says well lets head back. We were all saying "No way" We were not about to do this difficult trail in the dark. So we went out the I 17 and Table Mesa rd and made a call to Bone Daddy's girl friend. She cane and rescued us. She drove the 4 dusty trail riders around to Lake Pleasant to their vehicles as I stayed with the quads in the dark. (with Roy's gun) I ended the adventure by arriving home at 9:20 PM.
This trail is not for novice riders. It is rough with lots of boulders and ruts with a mileage of about 60 miles. Also if you ride with RoyD make sure you pack extra food. Oh and maybe a sleeping bag. He tried to talk us into spending the night. NOT!!!!!!!!
Thanks RoyD, it was an excellent adventure indeed. I thought some of those bulls wanted a piece of us in the creek bottom. We had a couple of stand off's.
