New Az2extreme buggy on Woodpecker 05-21-06
There is a new buggy in town, it's name is Az2xtreme. I went out for one last desert ride until the fall with some friends of mine that have built extreme rock crawlers out of Polaris 800's. They fabricate a rail frame and buy a Polaris 800 then disassemble it and put it in their hand made buggy. We went to the Martinez area and did the Woodpecker and Lower Ajax trails. It is a little hot in the desert so we started our adventure at just after daybreak. It didn't take much seat time in the buggy to see it is a very capable machine. This buggy unlike the Ridge Runner is a 4x4 machine. They use some Ranger parts but it is mostly Polaris 800. There will be a full review in the near future.
We started out at Woodpecker to test the capabilities of the new buggy. Everything we did was effortless to say the least. Woodpecker is one of my favorite desert trail because it gives you a little of everything for the rock crawler type of rider. There are waterfalls, boulders, and off camber spots. Our intentions were to do Highway to Hell as well but it was getting to hot so we did Lower Ajax on the return run along with a run down a sand wash to finish up the day. I drove the RUV for about 20 miles and took the hard lines over rocks and up waterfalls without the machine even breaking a sweat unlike us.
What a fun day indeed. These guys are amazing fabricators. They make lots of parts for Polaris machines. Also if you can describe to them what you want they can make it. It doesn't matter what brand it is. I had them make nerf bars for my Polaris 500 a couple of years ago and it has saved me many a footboard. I repaint them every couple of rides and they have never even dented.
