Moab Utah 03/24/06 Hells Revenge
Wow, to say the least. Words can not describe what a blast we had riding the toughest trails that Moab Utah had to offer. The riders were TSGreg, Leo (aka Bone Daddy) RoyD and myself (Don aka Azquadrider). This ride was even better than I ever imaged. What a great group of friends to ride with. Thanks guys for a weekend I will remember for the rest of my life.
I will try to give you an idea of what we encountered on our excellent adventure. The book named "Moab Utah, Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails" lists 23 trails in the Moab area from easy to the hardest. We did the top 4 out of 5 of the most difficult trails in the book along with 2 others listed in the top 10 as difficult With one medium trail for Photos.
There was no break downs or roll overs. Everyone survived to ride another day.
Day one- It was an 8 hour drive to Moab. After checking in to the Motel we had enough daylight to get in a warm up ride that was about 10 minutes away. The trail is called Hells Revenge. This trail is next to a rock called Lion's Back. You may have seen it on TV when the full size blazer could not stop and went off the side and head on into the sand. The trail starts off with some miniature Lion's backs and continues up and over lots of what they call slick rocks. The rocks are not slick in fact the traction is amazing. There are some steep climbs and descents with some excellent views of the Colorado River and snow covered mountains in the background. The photos with water in the bottom they call bathtubs. We did not go into them because they were to steep to be able to get out. This area is called White Sand Recreation Area and it cost us $5.00 for a 3 day pass. I had to lighten a few of the photos because of the shadows as it was getting late.
One thing they do to help you stay on the trail is paint markers on the rocks. They use different symbols for different trails.
