Mile Marker 11.5 11-19-06

Greg and I went out to MM 11.5 Sunday to test his new engine rebuild. All I can say is WOW!!!! That thing has major improvement in power. The power band is Immediate and never seems to end. I was on a smooth part of the trail going 40 and nailed the throttle and it broke the rear wheels loose. You hardly had to touch the throttle for lift off. It may take a little getting used to for rock crawling.

We did the normal hill climbs and Greg said let's take this other trail around the mountain. We did and ended up doing trail #12 the back way. # 12 is a tough trail but Greg said let me take you to the hard 12. That is one tough trail. We went on most of it but came up to our own turn around hill. With just the 2 of us it would not have been smart to go down because I don't think we could have made it back up. Maybe with some others along next time.

The second half of the photos are with John & Ann and their kids. I took them out for a little ride. We stayed on flat ground except one rock area. I showed them how the 4x4's would crawl up some rocks and then helped them with a rope so they would have a story. Ann did great and had a blast. Gotta love the look on rookies faces when they make it up a hard spot, but John stopped at the top of the rock and almost went over. I had the rope ( thank god) and was yelling at him to hit the throttle, he did and made it fine. Another lesson learned.

Then we came up on the truck that has been in the desert for about 1 year. I smelled smoke, turned and the truck was still on fire. Someone must have set it that day. I finally got through on my cell phone to 911 but the lady on the phone yelled at me and said if this was not a life threatening situation I was not to call 911. I said I understand but I was in the desert and calling to report a truck on fire. She then hung up on me. Very nice. We put out the fire on the surrounding bushes but could not got the truck out. It appeared to have a good ring of just dirt around the truck with no brush near it so we left. I could not get through until this morning to BLM and they are sending someone. Thanks 911.
